Sorry about my lackadaisical blogging. I've been busy promoting my current book and writing my next book, "Ruins of the Fall". I just finished another story for it. It's called "The Bride". It's about a buxom White woman who is being hunted and harassed by Convention soldiers (precursors to the Kemu). Of course, there are some themes about racial equality, a lot of death, OH! and I threw in some lesbian sex to make things interesting. Straight sex would've been okay, but I felt that lesbian sex would make the themes pop out more.
I'm realizing that I use different kinds of sex depending on my intent. If I want to disgust the reader, I'll write about two dudes screwing. If I want the sex to be in the background, i.e., blah, blah, blah, sex, blah, blah, I'll use straight sex. However, in this story, I want you, the reader, to feel some empathy for this character's sexuality. Thus, I made her a lesbian. Sounds crass, I know, but, as a writer, I have to play up to people's beliefs and expectations. People are repulsed by gay sex. Straight sex is cliche, but when you talk about lesbian sex, people take notice. Remember "The Color Purple"? Sure you do. Yes, the book was about female empowerment, but the message would've been less clear if Celie were straight. Therefore, BOOM!!! She's a lesbian. If you ask nicely, I'll put "The Bride" up for you to look at. I love you all!!!
